Lash extensions, and lash services in general are now becoming more and more popular. Why? Because self-care = self love, ammiright? Waking up to beautiful lashes not only saves us time in the morning, many clients tell us that it's a confidence booster too! As more and more girls and women are getting their eyelash extensions done, there are some myths that need to be debunked!
MYTH 1 : I shouldn't touch the eyelash extensions at all !
TRUTH: You have NO idea how many people think or were even taught by their lash technicians not to touch the extensions whatsoever...... Lashes MUST be properly cleansed and brushed daily so that lashes look good, and also to prevent eye infections! Can you imagine NOT cleansing your eyes at all? Dirt and bacteria will build up... increasing the risk for eye infections!
How to clean: Using fingers or a lash cleansing brush (new fluffy eyeshadow brushes also work), gently but thoroughly cleanse lashes and eyelid with a lash cleanser. Lash cleansers are a gentle wash that is oil-free, and causes no stinging to the eyes. Ask your lash artist where to purchase one! Rinse out the cleanser with water, and pat dry with a towel. Comb the eyelashes with a lash brush/spoolie and voila, lashes look fresh and clean!
BUT: DO avoid rubbing your eyes, and avoid sleeping on your face. This can cause lashes to fall out prematurely.
MYTH 2: I have to wait 24 hours before wetting my eyelashes!
TRUTH: Waiting 24 hours.... was MAYBE true back in the old days. Current lash extensions adhesive cure REALLY quick, within seconds! For the full set to be FULLY cured, lash artists may tell you to wait up to 2-4 hours, just to be on the safe side. Unless your lash tech is using some ancient product, you most definitely can wet your eyelash extensions after 2-4 hours.
MYTH 3: Lash extensions damage your natural lashes
TRUTH: When PROPERLY applied, lash extensions do not damage the natural eyelashes. It is only when lashes are NOT applied correctly (too thick, too long, stuck onto other lashes, stuck onto the skin, etc) that can damage the natural eyelashes. This is why FINDING a GOOD lash artist is so important, and also why properly applied lash extensions take longer to do (full sets should NEVER be less than an hour!).
