How to choose the right lash artist for you

Updated: Feb 5, 2021

There are SO many lash artists, nail artists, hairstylists, aestheticians out there - it can be a little overwhelming when you’re looking for someone to go to. So, today I’d like to share a couple tips on finding the right lash artist for you. Or, you can even apply these tips in finding aestheticians for other services.

Start With Referrals

Asking for recommendations - do you have friends who get these services done & you love the way it looks? Or they’ve been raving about this place they always go to? Ask them where they got it done - it’s always great to try a place that someone you know likes.

Location, Location, Location!

If you’re looking at a service that you know you’ll be getting pretty frequently look for a place that’s in a convenient location for you. Searching instagram hashtags (ex. Markham lashes #markhamlashes, Markham lash lift #markhamlashlift, #markhamlashextensions) & you scroll through accounts that are in the area.

The Salon/Studio Space

While the service itself is most important, the salon or studio space environment is very important as well. If you’ve never visited this place before, search on Google or Instagram to scroll through pictures & see what the space looks like - does it look comfortable? Does it look clean?

Finding a studio that follows strict health & safety protocols, & procedures is so important. If a studio is doing this properly - they most likely will be marketing this to you.

Some questions to ask or think about before booking:

  1. Are the technicians wearing a mask?

  2. Do they check your temperature before the service? (during COVID-19/pandemic)

  3. Are surfaces sanitized properly in between each client?

  4. Are the tools cleaned with the correct disinfectant solution? (I’ve seen people simply spray tools with alcohol - and let me tell you - this is NOT the correct way that tweezers should be cleaned)

Price

Pricing can be a little tricky. We all want to find the best deal - the biggest bang for your buck. I get it, it’s human nature! But before you look for the cheapest option out there - think of all the points we talked about before. As a business owner, I understand that there’s a lot of expenses to be paid. Good products, good training, proper cleaning supplies, studio decor, marketing expenses, etc... all these are hella expensive! If you’re looking for a premium service & experience - the price tag will most likely be higher. BUT of course you definitely want to find a place that you can comfortably afford.

When You Think You Found A Place

Scroll through their instagram page or website & look for some reviews. Take a look at their work and see if it’s something you like! Do they offer the service you’re interested in? Do they do the style you like? Are the artists certified?

The Appointment

Once you’ve booked your appointment, & received the service, reflect on a couple things:

How was the overall experience?

How was the service?

I’ve had clients tell me that they stopped getting lashes done because it was so uncomfortable, that it damaged their lashes, or that the service was so painful while they were getting it done (NOT normal!)

  • Lashes if done properly should not feel uncomfortable. Nothing should feel like it’s poking into your eye, if it did let the lash artist know - they most likely will fix it for you free of charge if you tell them soon enough. Pain & stinging during the lash appointment usually means that your eyes were not fully shut during the service - whenever you feel this, let the lash artist know!

  • Lashes should not be damaging - damage is usually caused if lashes were not properly applied.

How did you like the after-service? Do they have good customer care?

How did you like the aesthetician/lash artist?

  • This in my opinion very important - finding someone that you like, and click with is like the cherry on top of the sundae. You may see this person even more often than some of your friends, and can spend hours with them. If it really didn’t work out with them - it’s time to move on. If you loved them, show them some love and even help to refer your friends and family.

I hope these tips helped!

xo, Shannon
